Abstract AMINOPHENOXY BENZONITRILES ARE PREPARED FROM THE REACTION OF A DINITRO-, DICHLORO- OR CHLORONITRO-SUBSTITUTED BENZONITRILE WITH A ALKALI-METAL SALT OF AN AMINOPHENOL IN THE PRESENCE OF A DIPOLAR APROTIC SOLVENT. THE INVENTION ALSO INCLUDES NOVEL DIAMINOPHENOXY BENZONITRILES OR BENZOIC ACIDS PREPARED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE ABOVEDESCRIBED PROCESS.
