Abstract

Abstract The present invention provides a process for flame retarding textiles, paper and other flammable, solid substrates by applying to the substrate at least one allyl 2-carbamoylalkylphosphonate corresponding to the formulae: WHERE R is a hydrogen or methyl radical, whereupon the phosphonate is cured by free radical initiation so as to form an insoluble, fire retardant resinous finish.
