Abstract

Abstract A manifold set of donor layer, imaging material layer and receiver layer is formed between a backing electrode and a tape electrode. The tape electrode is initially wound on a spool and is laid out over the various layers of the manifold set by unwinding it from the spool. The imaging material is exposed to electromagnetic radiation and subjected to an electric field. The donor and receiver layers are separated when the tape electrode is wound back onto the spool yielding complementary images formed from the imaging material on the donor and receiver layers.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 98 words
A web handling mechanism comprising; a backing electrode; a first web forwarding and takeup means for directing portions of a first web into and out of operative relation with said backing electrode; a second web forwarding means for directing a second web into and out of operative relation with said first web on the side of said first web opposite said backing electrode; a tape electrode retractably positioned adjacent said first web whereby said second web is operatively received between said tape electrode and said first web; and, compression means for forcing said tape electrode toward said webs.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 98 words
A web handling mechanism comprising; a backing electrode; a first web forwarding and takeup means for directing portions of a first web into and out of operative relation with said backing electrode; a second web forwarding means for directing a second web into and out of operative relation with said first web on the side of said first web opposite said backing electrode; a tape electrode retractably positioned adjacent said first web whereby said second web is operatively received between said tape electrode and said first web; and, compression means for forcing said tape electrode toward said webs.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 18 words
The mechanism of claim 1 wherein said tape electrode is an elastic material mounted on a traveling spool.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 18 words
The mechanism of claim 1 further including a cutting means for severing at least one of said webs.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 17 words
The mechanism of claim 1 further including a means for wetting at least one of said webs.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 155 words
A web handling mechanism comprising; backing and tape electrodes having means for coupling each of said electrodes to a voltage source to attract the tape electrode toward the backing electrode by an electrical force; compression means to force the tape electrode toward the backing electrode to expel gases between them allowing ambient gas pressure to force the tape electrode toward the backing electrode; a first web forwarding means for directing a first web into and out of contact with the side of said backing electrode facing said tape electrode; and a second web forwarding means for directing a second web into and out of contact with the side of the first web facing said tape electrode, said second forwarding means comprising a pair of reversibly driven nip rollers means for driving said nip rollers, and override clutches coupled to said rollers to allow web travel through said rollers independent of said nip roller drive means.
Claim 7
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 17 words
The mechanism of claim 5 further including cutting means for severing at least one of said webs.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 16 words
The mechanism of claim 5 further including means for wetting at least one of said webs.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 19 words
The mechanism of claim 5 further including means to separate at least one of said webs from said electrodes.
