Abstract

Abstract A method of producing an identification card having identification data sandwiched between two halves of a fold-over plastic card. The method consists of coating one half of the card with a substance capable of taking an electrostatic charge and coating the second half with a cold solvent cement; charging and exposing the first half; fixing the image and drying the card; and folding the card to cohere the cement coated surface of the second half to the data-carrying first half. To produce multicolored cards the steps of charging, exposing, and fixing are repeated, the fixing step with solutions having different colored particles; for the re-exposing steps the image may be stored electronically. The card is self-destructing in that separating the halves of the card destroys the image.

The method of producing an identification card or the like comprising coating one-half of a card having a centrally extending fold line thereacross on one side of the fold line with a substance capable of taking an electrostatic charge, placing a cold solvent cement on the other half of the card, impressing a positive image on the one-half of the card by electrostatically charging the one-half of the card in one polarity and exposing the one-half of the card to a light image, fixing the image on the one-half of the card by placing the one-half of the card in an image-fixing solution of suspended particles having an affinity for charges of the one polarity whereby the particles adhere to the surface of the one-half of the card in accordance with the image impressed thereon to produce the image on the card, drying the card, folding the card along the fold line to cohere the cement coated surface of the other half of the card to the surface of the one-half of the card on which the image has been set to provide an identification card which is selfdestructing in that on separating the halves of the card the image is destroyed.
Claim 2
Independent Claim 202 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 47 words
The method as set forth in claim 1, and further including repeating the electrostatic charging and exposing of the coated portion of the card, and further including placing the reexposed and recharged portion of the card in image-fixing solutions having different colored particles to produce multicolored cards.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 49 words
The method as set forth in claim 2, wherein the images are identical and the first electrostatic image is stored electronically and reused for subsequent charging of the same card whereby identical image charges are produced prior to placing the card in the image-fixing solutions having different colored particles.
Claim 5
Independent Claim 235 words
The method of producing an identification card or the like comprising silkscreen coating one-half of a clear plastic card having a centrally extending fold line thereacross on one side of the fold line with one of powdered zinc, iron or selenium oxide in a lacquer vehicle which is capable of taking electrostatic charge, placing a cold solvent cement on the other half of the card, impressing a positive image on the one-half of the card by electrostatically charging the one-half of the card in one polarity in a dark enclosure and exposing the one-half of the card to a light image, fixing the image on the one-half of the card by placing the one-half of the card in an image-setting solution of at least one of graphite, powdered molybdenum metaphosphate, cobalt ferricyanide and cupric oxide particles suspended in alcohol having an affinity for charges of the one polarity whereby the particles adhere to the surface of the one-half of the card in accordance with the image impressed thereon to produce the image on the card, drying the card, folding the card along the fold line to cohere the cement coated surface of the other half of the card to the surface of the one-half of the card on which the image has been set to provide an identification card which is self-destructing in that on separating the halves of the card the image is destroyed.
Claim 6
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 47 words
The method as set forth in claim 1, and further including repeating the electrostatic charging and exposing of the coated portion of the card, and further including placing the reexposed and recharged portion of the card in image-fixing solutions having different colored particles to produce multicolored cards.
Claim 8
