Abstract
Abstract A recording system wherein a character disc having transparent character images thereon is rotated through an exposure zone so that selected characters may be projected by the energization of a flash lamp. The projected image is collimated and directed to a recording zone through which move lens-mirror units at a constant speed that intercept the projected image and focus it onto a photoreceptive recording medium. Sets of characters on the character disc pass through alternate exposure zones, each zone being associated with a different flash lamp, so that the lamps have sufficient time to recover after flashing.

Projection apparatus comprising a character disc adapted for rotation about an axis having thereon a pattern area concentric about said axis, said pattern area including Nsets of uniformly spaced and sized opaque character spaces each having centered therein an alphanumeric shaped transparent area, an optical field stop disc adapted for rotation about an axis having thereon N transparent spiral segments, each of said spiral segments subtending an angle substantially equal to the angle subtended by each of said character sets on said character disc, said spiral segments being arranged such that the beginning of a segment is offset by the width of the segment from the end of the adjacent segment, said optical field stop disc being positioned relative said character disc such that said spiral segments overlyingly intersect said character area in an exposure zone, means for driving said character disc and said optical field stop disc at a uniform rate through said exposure zone, N selectively flashable light source each adapted to illuminate the intersection of a corresponding one of said spiral segments with said character area in said exposure zone, first optical means positioned relative to said exposure zone for collimating the light passing through one of said alphanumeric shaped transparent areas, second optical means for focusing at least a portion of said collimated light at a focal plane, a light responsive recording medium positioned at said focal plane to receive a focused image of the alphanumeric shaped transparent area at said exposure zone, means for receiving signals corresponding to characters to be projected in the order 1, 2, 3, . . . , N, N+1, . . . , and means responsive to a received signal for flashing a light source to project the character corresponding to said received signal, said flashing means flashing said light sources to project the characters in the timed order N, N-1, . . . , 3, 2, 1 so as to project the characters in the positional order 1, 2, . . . , N-1, N on said light responsive recording medium.
