Abstract
Abstract A process for the manufacture of silicon carbide whiskers comprises heating solid-phase carbon and solid-phase silicon at a temperature of at least 1,100*C, said heating being carried out in the presence of a substrate heated to a temperature of at least 1,000*C and in an atmosphere comprising hydrogen and chlorine, whereby silicon carbide whiskers are formed upon the substrate.
