Abstract

Abstract A microwave beam tube operating above 4GHz is miniaturized by designing the electron gun to produce an electron beam having a microperveance within the range of 0.8 to 2.2. A periodic permanent magnet beam focusing structure is provided which employs ring-shaped permanent magnets having a coercive force in excess of 2,000 gauss, whereby the length, size, and weight of the tube, for a given gain and output power, are reduced substantially.
