Abstract A PROCESS FOR PREPARING ORGANIC DISULPHIDES, BY OXIDIZING THE CORRESPONDING MERCAPTAN WITH SULPHUR IN THE PRESENCE OF A BASIC CATALYST IS CHARACTERIZED BY THE FACT THAT LIQUID SULPHUR IS SPRAYED FINELY OVER TH SURFACE OF A LIQUID REACTION PHASE, IN A REACTOR EQUIPPED WITH A STIRRER, WHILE THE LIQUID MERCAPTAN IS INJECTED INTO THIS LIQUID PHASE WHICH CONSISTS OF A SOLUTION OF MERCAPTAN AND OF DISULPHIDE OBTAINED DURING THE REACTION, THE DISULPHIDE OBTAINED IN THE LIQUID PHASE BEING SEPARATED BY MEANS KNOWN IN THE PREVIOUS ART. THE USE OF THE PROCESS TO OBTAIN DIMETHYLDISULPHIDE AND AN APPARATUS USED TO PERFORM THE PROCESS IS ALSO DISCRIBED.
