Abstract INHIBITION OF THE FORMATION OF NEUTRAL OIL BY-PRODUCTS OCCURS IN THE SULFATION OF SECONDARY ALCOHOLS BY CHLOROSULFONIC ACID WHEN A SECONDARY ALCOHOL ETHOXYLATE IS PRESENT WITH THE SECONDARY ALCOHOL TO BE SULFATED. THE RESULTING ALCOHOL SULFATES ARE USEFUL IN CLEANING, WETTING, DETERGING AND EMULSIFYING MIXTURES.
