Abstract

Abstract This disclosure relates to an apparatus and method whereby liquid is supplied at a container from a supply line only when a vapor seal is formed between the supply line and the container. Flow of liquid is automatically stopped when the liquid in the tank reaches a predetermined level, when the pressure in the tank exceeds a predetermined value, or when the vapor seal is broken. Vapor is removed from the container during filling thereof. When filling ceases or the supply line is no longer vapor sealed to the container, the vapor removal line is automatically blocked to prevent escape of vapors into the atmosphere.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 4
Claim 1
Independent Claim 260 words
In a fluid handling apparatus, support means, a horizontally disposed first rigid conduit, first means pivotally connecting said first conduit to said support means for movement about both vertical and horizontal axes, a second horizontally disposed rigid conduit disposed in spaced vertical relation to said first conduit and substantially parallel thereto, means to link said first conduit to said second conduit for movement of said first conduit and said second conduit together about the horizontal axis of said first pivotal connecting means, means to connect said second conduit to said support means to allow said second conduit to move with said first conduit about the horizontal axis of said first pivotal connecting means to maintain the substantially parallel relation between said first and second conduits, said second conduit connecting means being separate from said first pivotal connecting means, conveying means having first passage means communicating with said first conduit and second passage means communicating with said second conduit, said first conduit and said first passage means in said conveying means conveying a fluid to a container or the like when said conveying means is disposed therein, said second conduit and said second passage means in said conveying means conveying a fluid from the container when said conveying means is disposed therein, and second means pivotally connecting said conveying means to said first conduit and to said second conduit to produce relative pivotal movement about a first horizontal axis between said first conduit and said conveying means and about a second horizontal axis between said second conduit and said conveying means.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 260 words

Claim 3
Dependent Claim 39 words
The apparatus according to claim 1 in which said support means has first and second fluid conducting means, said first fluid conducting means communicating with said first conduit, and said second fluid conducting means communicating with said second conduit.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 87 words
The apparatus according to claim 1 in which the horizontal pivot axis of said conveying means and said first conduit and the horizontal pivot axis of said conveyIng mans and said second conduit are maintained in substantially vertical aligned relation with each other when said first conduit pivots about the horizontal axis of said second pivotal connecting means by pivoting said conveying means about the pivot axis of said conveying means and said first conduit whereby said conveying means is maintained in a substantially vertically disposed position.
