Abstract

Abstract An electronic system for providing a safe/arm signal. A number of digital accelerometers are located in various parts of a moving body such as an artillery shell when the shell is fired, accelerometers measure acceleration in the setback acceleration the acceleration in the direction of travel. Other accelerometers measure spin acceleration. When predetermined levels of both setback and spin accelerations have been present for predetermined times, a safe/arm signal is provided by logic circuitry.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 84 words
An electronic fuze for an explosive projectile comprising, in combination; a first digital accelerometer means, disposed on said projectile, operable to provide a first output signal only in response to a predetermined acceleration in a first direction; a second digital accelerometer means, disposed on said projectile, operable to provide a second output signal only in response to a predetermined acceleration level in a second direction; and means for comparing the outputs of said first and second accelerometer means and for providing a safe/arm signal.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 84 words
An electronic fuze for an explosive projectile comprising, in combination; a first digital accelerometer means, disposed on said projectile, operable to provide a first output signal only in response to a predetermined acceleration in a first direction; a second digital accelerometer means, disposed on said projectile, operable to provide a second output signal only in response to a predetermined acceleration level in a second direction; and means for comparing the outputs of said first and second accelerometer means and for providing a safe/arm signal.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 30 words
The electronic fuze of claim 1 wherein said comparing means includes timing means for measuring the respective lengths of time over which said first and second output signals are present.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 24 words
The electronic fuze of claim 1 wherein said comparing means provides at least a third signal in response to said first and second signals.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 58 words
The electronic fuze of claim 1 wherein said first signal includes a plurality of signals from said first digital accelerometer means, said first digital accelerometer means including at least two digital accelerometers; and said second signal includes a plurality of signals from said second digital accelerometer means, said second digital accelerometer means including at least two digital accelerometers.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 45 words
The electronic fuze of claim 1 wherein said comparing means includes a first gateable means and a second gateable means, said second gateable means providing said safe/arm signal in response to a third signal from said first gateable means and said second digital accelerometer means.
