Abstract STEAM REFORMING IS EFFECTED TO PRODUCE A METHANE-RICH GASEOUS PRODUCT, SUITED FOR USE AS A SYNTHETIC NATURAL GAS, FROM HIGHER-BOILING HYDROCARBONS. A PORTION OF THE INITIAL REACTION ZONE PRODUCT EFFLUENT, GENERALLY FROM 3.0 MOL PERCENT TO ABOUT 50.0 MOL PERCENT IS REACTED IN A SECOND REACTION ZONE AT HYDROGEN-PRODUCING CONDITIONS; THE PRODUCT THEREFROM IS RECYCLED TO THE INITIAL REACTION ZONE.
