Abstract
Abstract A compartmented housing is inclined at a predetermined angle relative to the horizontal, with a path being defined through the housing for travel of animal carcasses, such as poultry, therethrough. Spray nozzles project from a generally smooth inner surface of the housing for directing high temperature steam upon preselected portions of the animal carcasses. The entry of ambient air into the housing is regulated to maintain a desired temperature within the housing. A prewetting station initially wets the animal carcasses prior to entry into the compartmented housing.

Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 5
Claim 1
Independent Claim
121 words
A fowl prewetting station for use in connection with a steam vaporizing system comprising: a housing having generally vertical sides through which fowl pass prior to entrance into the steam vaporizing system, a pair of elongated pipes mounted in bearing structure on said sides of said housing, a plurality of nozzles formed along the length of each of said pipes, rotary union means connected to the ends of each of said pipes, conduits attached to said rotary union means, a source of pressurized fluid connected to said conduits, linkages connected to the ends of said pipes, and motor means eccentrically connected to said linkages in order to oscillate said pipes about a prescribed arc for wetting fowl passing through said housing.

Claim 3
Dependent Claim
12 words
The prewetting station of claim 1 wherein said fluid comprises hot water.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
25 words
The prewetting station of claim 1 and further comprising: slanted walls connected to said sides of said housing to reduce fluid spray from said housing.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
24 words
The prewetting station of claim 1 and further comprising: steam pipes disposed along said housing and including nozzles for admitting steam into said housing.
