Abstract TO DEGASIFY ALUMINUM AND ALUMINUM ALLOYS, A LADLE IS PROVIDED WITH TWO COMPARTMENTS INTERCONNECTED BY A BOTTOM PASSAGE. INERT GAS IS INSUFFLATED IN VERY FINE BUBBLES INTO THE LOWER PORTION OF BOTH COMPARTMENTS. THE MOLTEN METAL FLOWS DOWN THE UPSTREAM COMPARTMENT, THEN FLOWS UP THE DOWNSTREAM COMPARTMENT.
