Abstract A WATER-SOLBLE THERMOSETTING WET-STRENGTHENING AGENT FOR PAPER IS PREPARED BY REACTING AN AMIDATED IONIC GLUCOPYRANOSYL COMPOUND WITH GLYOXAL. WET STRENGTH PAPER CONTAINING THIS POLYMER LOSES ABOUT HALF ITS WET STRENGTH DURING 24 HOURS OF NORMAL WET WEATHERING WHEN DISCARDED, THEREBY ALLEVIATING THE LITTER PROBLEM.
