Abstract A REFRIGERATED SURGE TANK IS USED TO HOLD SEWAGE AT A REDUCED TEMPERATURE AND PROVIDE AN AEROBIC DIGESTION SYSTEM WITH A REGULATED SEWAGE FEED WITHOUT SUBSTANTIAL LOSS OF BIO-NUTRIENT OR THE GENERATION OF OFFENSIVE ODORS WHILE THE SEWAGE IS BEING HELD. PREFERABLY THE SURGE TANK IS ALSO PROVIDED WITH MEANS FOR OXYGENATING THE SEWAGE BEING HELD.
