Abstract TETRAHALOGENATED CHROMOGENIC COMPOUNDS ARE DISCLOSED. ONE SUCH COMPOUND IS 3-(P-DIETHYLAMINOPHENYL)3-(1,2-DIMETHYLINDOL - 3 - YL)-4,5,6,7-TETRACHLOROPHTHALIDE. THESE COLORLESS, BUT COLORABLE DYES ARE EMPLOYED IN PRESSURE-SENSITIVE RECORD MATERIAL AND MARK-FORMING MANIFOLD SYSTEMS. THE TETRAHALOGENATED COMPOUNDS OF THIS INVENTION DEMONSTRATE GOOD FADE RESISTANCE BOTH IN RESPECT TO REFLECTIVE INTENSITY AND QUANTITY OF COLOR PRESENT.
