Abstract

Abstract Rapid oscillation between consecutive numbers displayed by a numerical display device is prevented by comparing an incoming digitally-coded signal with one representing the numeral currently registered by the device. If the incoming signal corresponds to a numeral consecutive to the one being displayed, the system inhibits the registration of the new signal by the device. At predetermined intervals the comparision system is bypassed and the device is ''''updated'''' by allowing registration of new signals, regardless of their relationship to prior signals.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 212 words
A numerical display system for visually displaying numerals indicative of a frequency modulated signal in response to a parameter to be measured comprising: a. means for sensing the modulated frequency at first periodic intervals; b. means for converting each sensed frequency into a corresponding binary coded signal, said binary code being characterized by a plurality of bits with the least significant bit of the coded signal being of opposite polarity for successive numerals; c. a display device; d. means for transmitting a first binary coded signal to said display device for effecting a numerical display indicative of a first sensed frequency; and e. means for comparing a second binary coded signal corresponding to a later-sensed frequency with said first binary coded signal, said comparing means inhibiting transmission of said binary coded signal to said display device by said transmitting means when the polarities of the least significant bits of said first and second signals have a first predetermined relationship, and effecting transmission of said second binary signal to said display device by said transmitting means when the polarities of said signals have a second predetermined relationship; and f. updating means for effecting transmission of said second binary signal of said display device at second periodic intervals, of said first and second signals.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 212 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 40 words
The numerical display system of claim 1 wherein said comparing means inhibits transmission of said second binary coded signal to said display device when the polarities of the least significant bits of said first and second are of different polarities.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 149 words
In a numerical display system including a numerical display device means for eliminating the fluttering of displayed numerals due to random variations of the least significant bit of the digital coded signal which controls the numerical display, comprising: a. comparator means for periodically comparing a first incoming digital coded signal with a second coded digital signal representing a currently displayed numeral, the least significant bits of said coded signals always having different polarities for successive numerals, and producing an output signal upon occurrence of a predetermined relationship between the polarities least significant bits of said first and second digital coded signals; b. updating means for periodically producing an output signal at a rate which is less than the rate of actuation of said comparator means; c. means for effecting the transmission of said first signal to the numerical display device upon the production of either of said output signals.
Claim 5
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 31 words
Flutter eliminating means as recited in claim 3 wherein said comparator means produces an output signal whenever the least significant bits of said first and second signals have the same polarity.
