Abstract

Abstract A device for fixing a leaf spring to an axle of a vehicle. The device comprises two clamping elements between which the spring is clamped by two U-shaped fixing members tightenable by nuts screwed thereon. One of the clamping elements is a resilientlyyieldable plate which has a bent shape in the free state so that it is applied against the spring throughout its surface area after the fixing members are tightened. In this way, the spring is prevented from bending in its center part (weakened by openings for assembly members) and wear, produced by rubbing along the ends of the clamping elements, is markedly reduced.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 110 words
A device for fixing a leaf spring to a structure, such as a vehicle axle, comprising two clamping elements disposed on opposite sides of said spring, and tightenable fixing means interconnecting said clamping elements, one of said clamping elements comprising a resiliently-yieldable metal plate which is subjected to bending stress due to the fact that it initially had a bent shape in the free state and a convex face facing said spring, said fixing means being combined with said plate in the vicinity of opposite ends of said plate so that said plate is applied throughout the surface area of said plate against said spring by said tightened fixing means.
Claim 2
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 26 words
A device as claimed in claim 1, comprising interposed between one of said clamping elements and said spring a layer of a material having lubricating properties.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 24 words
A device as claimed in claim 1, comprising interposed between said clamping elements and said spring a layer of a material having lubricating properties.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 31 words
A device as claimed in claim 1, wherein said metal plate has a center portion which has a curvature which is greater than the curvature of end portions of said plate.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 18 words
A device as claimed in claim 4, wherein said curvature corresponds to a curve of the fourth degree.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 14 words
A device as claimed in claim 2, wherein said layer is a galvanized sheet.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 15 words
A device as claimed in claim 2, wherein said layer is a sheet of zinc.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 36 words
A device as claimed in claim 2, wherein said layer is a coating of paint containing powdered zinc applied on a face of an element selected from said spring and said one of said clamping elements.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 32 words
A device as claimed in claim 2, wherein said layer is a coating of paint containing powdered zinc applied on facing faces of said spring and said one of said clamping elements.
