Abstract
Abstract A vacuum holddown device for use in an apparatus employing flexible web material in a flattened condition. A perforated plenum plate is joined to a manifold connectable to a vacuum producing means. A plurality of ribs are formed on the plate between it and the manifold. When the space between the plenum plate and manifold is evacuated the latter is forced against the ribs.

An electrostatic printing machine having exposure, development and cleaning stations comprising, a belt assembly for supporting and guiding a continuously moving endless photoreceptor belt around a plurality of rollers and across the stations, said assembly defining a planar belt run across the exposure stations for the machine, a second planar run across the development station, and a third planar run across the cleaning station, said belt being impervious, a vacuum holddown device mounted opposite each of said three stations cooperable with said impervious belt for continuously holding said belt against said belt runs whereby to provide belt runs in flat condition at each of the respective stations, and means for connecting each of the devices to a common air conveying element for connection to a vacuum producing source.
