Abstract D R A W I N G IRON IS SEPARATED BY HALOGENATION FROM A MATERIAL, E.G. AN ALLOY, CONTAINING AT LEAST ONE OTHER METAL SELECTED FROM THE GROUP CONSISTING OF ZR, TI, HF, V, NB, TA, MO, W, AND RE WHEREIN THE MATERIAL IS CHLORINATED TO FORM A GASEOUS MIXTURE CONTAINING FERROUS CHLORIDE AND AT LEAST ONE OTHER METAL CHLORIDE, FOLLOWING WHICH THE ONE OTHER METAL CHLORIDE IS SEPARATED FROM THE FERROUS CHLORIDE BY CONDENSING OUT THE LATTER AT A TEMPERATURE AT WHICH THE AT LEAST ONE OTHER METAL CHLORIDE IS VOLATILE.
