Abstract
Abstract A process for the production of a polynuclear aromatic compound from an aromatic compound having a labile hydrogen atom attached to its nucleus which involves heating the latter aromatic compound with a noble metal salt of an organic acid in the presence of a strong acid and molecular oxygen in a reaction system free of halide ions and nitrate ions.
