Abstract

Abstract An adjustable reset timer for providing delayed time sequences for electrical circuits. In the timer, an adjustable cam member, including a cam hub having a serrated face is disposed about the drive shaft of a synchronous motor in a free wheeling relationship therewith. A clutch hub member, also having a serrated face, is received over the drive shaft in rotational driving engagement therewith and is axially shiftable along the drive shaft between engaging and non-engaging positions relative to the cam hub. In the engaging position, the serrations on the hubs mate to form a rotational driving connection therebetween so that in that position, the cam member is rotatably driving from a non-energizing to an energizing position relative to at least one load switch. The clutch hub is normally biased toward the engaging position but is prevented from engagement with the cam hub by a retaining lever. The lever is disposed in an operative relationship with an electrical relay which is selectively energizable and de-energizable to permit the lever to be moved between retaining and non-retaining conditions with resultant corresponding movement of the clutch hub between the non-engaging and engaging positions.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 288 words
A reset cycle timer for providing adjustable time delay sequences between energization of the timer circuit and energization of at least one associated load switch, said timer comprising: drive means including an elongated mounting and driving shaft extending outwardly therefrom; a cam member having a first hub portion and a cam portion extending generally radially outward of said hub portion, said first hub portion including a first mounting hole extending axially therethrough for positioning said cam member over said mounting and driving shaft in a free wheeling relationship therewith for selective arcuate movement of said cam member cam portion therearound between arcuately spaced apart nonenergizing and energizing positions relative to said at least one load switch positioned generally radially of said cam member; a clutch assembly having a second hub portion including a second mounting hole extending axially therethrough for positioning said clutch assembly over said mounting and driving shaft adjacent said cam member first hub portion, said clutch assembly further including means for connecting said assembly to said shaft for continuous rotation therewith and for permitting selective axial movement of at least said second hub portion along said shaft between a first mechanically nonengaging position and a second mechanically engaging, driving position with said first hub portion; means for continuously arcuately biasing said cam member about said drive shaft toward said non-energizing position; and, shifting means engaging said clutch assembly for selectively shifting said assembly between said non-engaging and engaging positions, whereby when said second hub portion is in said second position, said cam member is rotatably driven from said non-energizing position toward said energizing position and when said second hub portion is in said first position, said cam member is arcuately biased to said non-energizing position.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 288 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 51 words
The reset timer as defined in claim 1 wherein said first and second hubs have mating hub face portions, said mating hub face portions each including outwardly protruding serrations whereby when said second hub is in said second position a driving connection is formed between said face portions by said serrations.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 62 words
The reset timer as defined in claim 1 wherein said connecting means further includes means for continuously axially forcing said second hub portion toward one of said first and second positions, said shifting means overcoming the axial force of said force means when said second hub portion is shifted from said one to the other of said positions by said shifting means.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 53 words
The reset timer as defined in claim 1 further including a stop member for selectively determining the arcuate position of said non-energizing position relative to said energizing position, said stop member being arcuately movable relative to said shaft to thereby permit the distance of travel of said cam member to be selectively varied.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 66 words
The reset timer as defined in claim 4 wherein said cam portion of said cam member includes at least one cam head protruding therefrom for causing energization of said at least one load switch, said head further being adjustable relative to said cam member to protrude varied lengths therefrom so as to provide further selective alteration of the arcuate distance between said non-energizing and energizing positions.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 16 words
The reset timer as defined in claim 1 wherein said drive means comprises a synchronous motor.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 74 words
The reset timer as defined in claim 1 wherein said biasing means comprises a torsion spring member coiled about said drive shaft, one end of said spring member being rigidly affixed to said timer and the other end of said spring member being affixed to said cam member so that as said cam member is moved from said non-energizing position to said energizing position, the biasing force imposed by said spring member is increased.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 66 words
The reset timer as defined in claim 3 wherein said shifting means includes a mechanical linkage having one portion thereof operatively disposed relative to said second hub portion and another portion thereof operatively disposed relative to an electro-magnetic relay, energization and de-energization of said relay causing shifting movement of said mechanical linkage for effecting movement of said second hub portion between said first and second positions.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 28 words
The reset timer as defined in claim 8 wherein said one position is said second mechanically engaging position and said other position is said first mechanically non-engaging position.
