Abstract TO PREVENT UNDESIRABLE PATTERNING ON THE CONE AND TO PROVIDE FOR SLIP BETWEEN THE YARN PACKAGE AND THE GROOVED TRAVERSE DRUM THEREFOR, THE SPEED OF THE GROOVED DRUM IS VARIED BY INTERMITTENTLY INTERRUPTING THE DRIVE TO THE DRUM UNDER CONTROL OF AN ELECTRICAL SWITCH WITH PERIODICALLY INTERRUPTS THE POWER SUPPLY TO THE MOTOR, THE PHASING OF INTERRUPTION WITH RESPECT TO THE PHASE OF SUPPLY CURRENT BEING CONTROLLED IN DEPENDENE ON THE LOAD OF THE MOTOR.
