Abstract
Abstract High softening point thermoplastic materials are prepared by the contacting of steam-cracked tar or fractions thereof with oxygen containing gases in the presence of a catalyst comprising salts of iron, copper, aluminum and zinc. The product materials result from the oxidative polymerization which occurs at temperatures in the range of 200* to 300* C. and are useful binder materials for the manufacture of fiberboard and other products.
