Abstract

Abstract Water thinnable coating compositions are prepared by incorporating therein as the pigment binder an acidified aminoethylated copolymer having pendant amino-alkylate groups of the formula WHEREIN R1 and R2 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and lower alkyl radicals of one to four carbon atoms and the average value of n ranges from about 1.0 to 2.5 and wherein the copolymer before aminoethylation contains at least 3 percent by weight pendant -COOH groups. Water dispersant epoxy resin coating compositions are also disclosed.

Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim 105 words
A water thinnable coating composition comprising (1) a water miscible solvent, (2) an acidified aminoethylated vinyl polymer dissolved in said solvent, said interpolymer having pendant aminoethyl groups of the formula wherein R1 and R2 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and lower alkyl radicals of one to four carbon atoms and the average value of n ranges from about 1.0 to about 2.5 and wherein the interpolymer before aminoethylation contains at least 3 percent by weight pendant -COOH groups and further wherein said aminoethyl groups are reacted with sufficient acid to impart water solubility to said interpolymer and (3) an epoxy resin.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 105 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 18 words
The composition of claim 1 wherein the average value of n is from about 1.5 to about 2.5.
