Abstract

Abstract A composition and method for inhibiting steam-corrosion, comprising adding to the water a stable, cationic, fatty amine emulsion which breaks down upon heating, thereby allowing the fatty amine to enter the vapor phase and coat the interior surfaces exposed to the steam. Optionally, an ethoxylated straight chain aliphatic acid may be added where the boiler water containers inorganic salt impurities, or is at a high temperature in order to maintain stability of the emulsion.
