Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim 62 words
A tetrathiooxalate polymer composition comprising sulfur and carbon in a ratio of from about 1.2:1 to 2:1, sulfur:carbon, the polymer characterized in that substantial amounts of the carbon is present in dithiooxalyl segments, wherein presence of the dithiooxalyl segments is confirmed by cleavage of the polymer composition with ammonia to form dithiooxamide, the polymer further characterized by repeatiNg units of the structure
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 62 words
A tetrathiooxalate polymer composition comprising sulfur and carbon in a ratio of from about 1.2:1 to 2:1, sulfur:carbon, the polymer characterized in that substantial amounts of the carbon is present in dithiooxalyl segments, wherein presence of the dithiooxalyl segments is confirmed by cleavage of the polymer composition with ammonia to form dithiooxamide, the polymer further characterized by repeatiNg units of the structure
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 19 words
A composition according to claim 1, wherein the ratio of sulfur to carbon is from about 1.5:1 to 2:1.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 36 words
A process for making the polymer of claim 1, comprising reacting carbon disulfide with an aromatic hydrocarbon-alkali metal addition complex reductant, forming an alkali metal tetrathiooxalate precursor thereby, and treating the precursor with an oxidizing agent.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 12 words
A process according to claim 3, wherein the alkali metal is sodium.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 12 words
A process according to claim 3, wherein the aromatic hydrocarbon is naphthalene.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 12 words
A process according to claim 3, wherein the oxidizing agent is bromine.
