Abstract

Abstract Terminally difunctional polythioether polyadducts are prepared by reacting dithiols with acetylenes under free radi-cal conditions. Inherent to their method of preparation, the novel polythioethers contain the divalent carbon skeletons derived from their dithiol and acetylene monomer components in a regularly alternating manner. Dependent on dithiol acetylene monomer ratio, the novel polymers contain thiol and/or vinyl sulfide end groups. Owing to their reactive, diterminal functions, they can be chain extended and crosslinked via known reactions to elastomers useful as mastics.
