Abstract
Abstract Alkyl ethers having 3-hydroxy substitution are produced by the reaction of a mixture of 2-hydrocarbonoxyoxetanes and 3hydrocarbonoxyoxetanes with a Grignard reagent at temperatures below 100*C. The 3-hydroxy substituted alkyl ethers are useful as solvents in lacquers, and for chemical reactions, as plasticizers and as starting materials for the preparation of polyoxyalkylene ethers by base catalyzed addition of propylene oxide and ethylene oxide. The polyoxyalkylene ethers are useful as lubricants, surfactants, etc.
