Abstract In an improved process for preparing aromatic hydroxyamines by the selective hydrogenation of aromatic nitro compounds and rearrangement in the presence of a platinum group metal catalyst and dilute sulfuric acid, the hydrogenation is carried out in the presence of dimethylsulfoxide.
