Abstract

Abstract The present invention deals with a multiple stage pulse modifying filter having a time delay characteristic which is a function of frequency over a prescribed band of frequencies and a radar system which incorporates this filter. The filter is first used in extending the duration of transmitted pulses. After reception of echoes of the transmitted pulses and inversion of the frequency spectrum, the same filter is used to shorten the duration of the received pulses. Each stage of the filter, save for the first, consists of a time delay element connected in series with a bandpass filter, the first stage having a bandpass filter, the respective input and output terminals of each subsequent stage being coupled to the respective input and output terminals of the bandpass filter of the preceding stage.
