Abstract

Abstract A molding press is provided with a stationary mold section and a movable mold section. The movable section carries mechanism operative when the mold is opened for ejecting a workpiece from the mold. Additional mechanism is arranged for projection into the mold cavity for forming a recess in the side of the workpiece and for being withdrawn from the mold cavity in time to permit ejection of the workpiece from the mold cavity. Latch mechanism, operable in response to opening and closing of the mold, is provided for suitably controlling means which receives work ejected from the mold and discharges it from the press.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim 287 words
In a molding press, the combination comprising A. a main frame, B. a mold having a stationary lower section and a movable upper section mounted upon said main frame, said movable upper mold section being disposed in overlying spaced relation to said stationary lower section, C. knockout means for said upper mold section, D. means for raising and loWering said upper mold section and operating said knockout means in predetermined timed relation whereby to open and close said mold and eject work from said upper mold section when the same is raised, E. an auxiliary frame suspended from said main frame and mounted thereon for rocking forth and back freely about a horizontally extending axis, F. a pan carried by the lower end portion of said auxiliary frame and disposed between the sections of said mold for receiving the work ejected from said upper mold section, G. material feeding and work stripping means operable for entering between the sections of said mold and stripping work from said knockout means for deposit thereof upon said pan, and for then rocking said auxiliary frame against the influence of gravity in a direction away from said mold thereby to withdraw said pan from its work receiving position between said mold sections, and H. latching means automatically operable in response to opening and closing of said mold for securing said auxiliary frame and pan in the positions thereof to which they are moved by said material feeding and work stripping means, and for releasing the same at a predetermined point in the machine cycle for return thereof under the influence of gravity to their initial positions, wherein said pan is disposed in work receiving position between the sections of said mold.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 287 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 57 words
The combination according to claim 1 wherein the pan is pivotally mounted upon the auxiliary frame for rocking freely about an axis parallel to the axis about which said auxiliary frame rocks, and stationary means on the main frame coacting with said auxiliary frame support said pan in work receiving position between the sections of the mold.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 84 words
The combination according to claim 2 wherein the horizontal axis about which the pan rocks extends across one end portion of said pan, means providing a stationary fulcrum are mounted upon the main frame and support the opposite end portion of said pan, and as the auxiliary frame is rocked by the material feeding and work stripping means to move said pan over said fulcrum said pan is progressively tilted over said fulcrum from said work receiving position to facilitate discharge of work therefrom.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 106 words
The combination according to claim 1 wherein the latch means comprises a latch rod carried by the auxiliary frame and extending thereacross parallel to the axis about which the auxiliary frame rocks, and a pair of latch bars carried by the main frame and mounted thereon for rocking about an axis parallel to the axis about which said auxiliary frame rocks, said bars being operatively disengaged from said rod and being operable each independently of the other for effectively engaging said rod and thereby releasably latching said auxiliary frame in the position thereof to which it is moved by the material feeding and work stripping means.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 35 words
The combination according to claim 4 wherein means carried by the upper mold section are operable for actuating the latch bars in predetermined timed relation whereby to selectively disengage said bars from the latch rod.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 134 words
The combination according to claim 5 wherein each of the latch bars is provided with a notched free end portion adapted for overlying the latch rod with the latter nested in said notch, said bars being in effective working position when said rod is nested as aforesaid, and being operatively disengaged from said rod when the latter is not nested as aforesaid, the effective length of one of said latch bars is greater than that of the other so that only one of said bars at a time can be in effective working position, the shorter one of said bars is releasably held by the latch bar actuating means in a position clear of said rod, and the longer one of said bars is provided with means for holding the same to said rod.
