Abstract
Abstract In accordance with the present invention, copolymers containing units of sulfo-alkyl acrylate or methacrylate of the formula H2C CH(R)-CO2-A-SO3H wherein R is H or methyl and A is a (C2C3)alkylene group are prepared in an essentially anhydrous medium. Such copolymers have unusual characteristics, including outstanding improvement in adhesion to numerous substrates and especially metals, which are lacking in analogous copolymers made in an aqueous medium. Hence the new copolymers are extremely useful in making coating compositions.
