Abstract A LARGE NUMBER OF STEEL SURGICAL NEEDLES ARE SUPPORTED IN A MAGNETIC FIELD ON A PLATINUM, PALLADIUM, RHODIUM, IRIDIUM, OR GOLD ANODE THAT IS IMMERSED IN A MAGNETIC ELECTROPOLISHING BATH. THE NEEDLES SUPPORTED ON THE ANODE ARE POLISHED BY A CURRENT THAT FLOWS THROUGH THE SOLUTION AND NEEDLES TO PRODUCE A SMOOTH NEEDLE SURFACE THAT IS FREE OF FLAWS AT THE POINT OF CONTACT WITH OTHER NEEDLES ON THE ANODE.
