Abstract AN APPARATUS FOR PACKING A MATERIAL IN AN UPRIGHT CONTAINER. A VIBRATING TAMP STICK IS MOUNTED ON A CARRIAGE WHICH CAN MOVE IN OPPOSITION TO THE CONTAINER AGAINST A UNIFORM FORCE. AS THE TAMP STICK VIBRATES, MATERIAL FLOWS AROUND ITS TIP AND IS PACKED BY IT, FORCING THE CARRIAGE AND THE CONTAINER TO GRADUALLY SEPARATE UNTIL THE CONTAINER IS COMPLETELY PACKED.
