Abstract OBJECTIONABLY ODORIFEROUS SULPHUROUS GASES, E.G. H2S AND CH3SH, ARE REMOVED FROM A GASEOUS STREAM BY INTIMATELY CONTACTING THE STREAM WITH AN AQUEOUS ALKALINE SUSPENSION OF ACTIVATED CARBON HAVING A PH OF AT LEAST ABOUT 8 IN THE PRESENCE OF AT LEAST ABOUT 12% BY VOLUME OF CO2 AND NOT MORE THAN ABOUT 6% BY VOLUME OF O2, THE ACTIVATED CARBON THEREBY PROMOTING THE OXIDATION OF SULPHIDE IONS AND CH3SH.
