Abstract METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR STERILIZING SURFACES WHICH CANNOT TOLERATE INTENSIVE HEATING OR WHICH, IF HEATED, MUST BE BROUGHT UP TO TEMPERATURE AND THEN COOLED OVER AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. STERILIZATION IS ACCOMPLISHED BY EXPOSING THE SURFACE TO A LOW-PRESSURE PLASMA OF A STERILIZING GAS SUCH AS CHLORINE, BROMINE OR IODINE.
