Abstract
Abstract An arrangement for the continuous refining of metal, especially pig iron. This arrangement comprises a refining reactor, a decantation vessel, means for feeding at a first level liquid metal containing slag forming impurities into the reactor and discharging means located at the second level which is higher than the first level for discharging material from the reactor into the decantation vessel. The arrangement also includes means for blowing a refining gas into the reactor so as to form a metal-slag foam which passes through the discharging means into the decantation vessel.

Claim 1
Independent Claim
190 words
An arrangement for the continuous refining of metal, especially pig iron, comprising at least one refining reactor and at least one decantation vessel located downstream of said one reactor; means for feeding at a first level liquid metal containing slag forming impurities into said reactor; discharge means providing communication between said reactor and said decantation vessel for discharging material from said reactor into said decantation vessel, said discharging means communicating with said reactor at a second level which is higher than said first level; means for blowing a refining gas into said reactor to react with said slag forming impurities so as to form a metal-slag foam consisting of slag foam having said metal in subdivided form suspended therein and having a volume greater than that of said metal introduced into said reactor so as to cause said metal slag foam to pass through said discharge means of higher level into said decantation vessel; and means for discharging from said decantation vessel the metal and the slag separated from each other, said last mentioned means communicating with said decantation vessel at a level which is lower than said second level.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim

Claim 3
Dependent Claim
22 words
An arrangement as defined in claim 1, wherein said discharge means from said decantation vessel comprise two openings placed at different levels.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
30 words
An arrangement as defined in claim 1, and including means for dividing said decantation vessel into two compartments which communicate with each other at the bottom of the decantation vessel.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
25 words
An arrangement as defined in claim 1, wherein said arrangement includes at least two reactors and one decantation vessel between and adjacent said two reactors.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
35 words
An arrangement as defined in claim 4, wherein said one decantation vessel has a pair of opposite walls respectively facing said two reactors, and respectively communicating with said two reactors through openings in said walls.
