Abstract

Abstract A process for the preparation of shaped polymeric articles by gel-polymerizing a homogeneous composition comprising from 5 to 95% by weight of the precursors of a cross-linked polyurethane and from 95 to 5% by weight of at least one vinyl monomer in which the gelatin of the polyurethane is substantially completed before polymerization of the vinyl monomer is allowed to proceed to the extent that the vinyl polymer so produced forms a separate phase, and thereafter completing polymerization of the vinyl monomer; also shaped polymeric articles comprising a homogeneous dispersion of from 5 to 95% by weight of a cross-linked polyurethane and from 95 to 5% by weight of a polymer of at least one vinyl monomer.
