Abstract

Abstract The extraction and the recovery of beryllium substantially devoid of zinc and other impurities from low and medium grade acid-leachable berllium bearing ores, e.g., bertrandite, is accomplished by acid leaching at a pH below about 2 but above about 1.2, preferably between 1.3 and 1.5, and advantageously with the aid of a soluble fluoride additive to recover the beryllium in solution with relatively small dissolution of such impurities as iron and aluminum.
