Abstract
Abstract Apparatus for processing tires, in particular for discovering anomalies therein comprising means for chucking, inflating, and rotating a tire thereon about a vertical axis, means for operating on the tire chucked by moving a load roll to apply a radial load to the tire. The roll is mounted on a delectable yoke secured on a carriage movable to and away from the tire. Means supporting the tire first prelocates and centers the tire, then moves the tire into coaxial registry with the chucking means.

Claim 1
Independent Claim
201 words
Apparatus for discovering, measuring, and locating anomalies in a cured tire, the apparatus comprising means for chucking a tire for rotation about an axis coincident with the rotation axis of the tire for its intended use, means for applying a predetermined load to said tire including a load roll engageable in rolling contact with the rolling surface of the tire, a substantially rigid carriage mounted for movement along a direction line perpendicular to said axis, a yoke comprising a pair of flex bars each having an end portion secured to said carriage, means secured to an intermediate portion of each of said bars to support said load roll for rotation about a second axis parallel to the first axis, a plurality of means connected between said yoke and said carriage and responsive respectively to deflections produced in said yoke by forces acting between said roll and said tire to provide signals representative of said deflections, and including calibrating means for applying a dead weight load on said roll normal to the axis thereof, whereby the direction of said yoke in response to said dead weight can be determine and said means responsive to deflections produced in said yoke can be calibrated.

Claim 3
Dependent Claim
96 words
Apparatus as claimed in claim 1, said means for applying a dead weight load comprising fulcrum means mounted on said carriage, lever means having a seat engageable with said fulcrum means at one end and a seat adapted to receive a dead weight hanger at its other end and a force applying stud intermediate its ends, said stud being engageable with the arcuate surface of said load roll to apply a calibrating force thereon along the said line of action, which force is a predetermined function of the dead weight applied to said dead weight hanger.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
111 words
Apparatus as claimed in claim 2, said means for applying a dead weight load comprising: a dead weight hanger; an arch bar swingably mounted on said carriage, to extend transversely of said load roll, and to locate a fulcrum at a predetermined fixed distance from said line of action; a load lever having a stud engageable with the surface of the load roll at said line of action, a shorter lever arm having a fulcrum seat engageable with said fulcrum and extending between said fulcrum seat and said stud, and a longer lever arm having a hanger seat engageable with said hanger and extending between said hanger seat and said stud.
