Abstract THERMAL DECOMPOSITION OF IRON CARBONYL VAPOUR TO CARBONYL IRON POWDER IS CATALYSED BY CARRING OUT THE DECOMPOSITION IN THE PRESENCE OF NITRIC OXIDE (NO), NITROGEN TRIOXIDE (N2O3) OR NITROGEN PEROXIDE (NO2). THE PRESENCE OF THESE GASES ALSO ENABLES THE CARBON CONTENT OF POWDER OF A GIVEN PARTICLE SIZE TO BE REDUCED.
