Abstract

Abstract A novel chemiluminescent composition which incorporates at least one of a newly discovered group of materials which extend the lifetime during which an oxalic ester chemiluminescent reaction produces chemiluminescent light. The lifetime extender materials are inorganic and organic acids which have a pKa below about 5.0 in aqueous solution. Also useful are sulfates of lithium and metals from Groups 2a, 2b, and 3a of the Periodic Table, chlorides of Group 2a metals, silica, and acidic ion exchange resins.
