Abstract SINGLE-RING AROMATIC HYDROCARBONS ARE MAXIMIZED BY HYDROCRACKING A HEAVY HYDROCARBON FEED BOILING BELOW 1050*F. CONTAINING POLYNUCLEAR AROMATICS OR THEIR PRECURSORS OVER ZEOLIT BASE HYDROCRACKING CATALYST AT LOW CONVERSIONS OF 5 TO 40% AND RECYCLING THE 90-160*F. AND 350*F.+ FRACTIONS TO EXTINCTION. INTEGRATING THIS STEP WITH THE VISBREAKING OF RESIDUA IN PRESENCE OF A HYDROCARBON MODIFIER OR FREE-RADICAL ACCEPTOR IN WHICH THE 90160*F. FRACTION FROM THE HYDROCARACKING IS USED AT LEAST IN PART AS THE MODIFIER IS INCLUDED.
