Abstract A POLYMERIZABLE SUBSTANCE IS PREPARED BY FIRST MAKING A BIVALENT METAL SALT OF A COMPOUND HAVING THE STRUCTURAL FORMULA HOOC-C6H4-COO-R2-OOC-C(-R1)=CH2 WHEREIN R1 IS HYDROGEN OR METHYL AND R2 IS AN ALKYLENE GROUP WHICH MAY OR MAY NOT BE HALOGENATED, AND THEN MIXING SAID SALT WITH ANOTHER MONOMER CAPABLE OF COPOLYMERIZATION WITH IT. THE POLYMERIZABLE SUBSTANCE SO OBTAINED CAN BE USED IN PAINTS OR AS A MOLDING MATERIAL OR ADHESIVE.
