Abstract

Abstract A photocopying machine is provided with a paper feed arrangement wherein a stack of sheets is supported on a floor of a paper feed tray located on a shelf at an operating station beneath paper feed rollers for advancing the sheets from the tray. The forward end of the stack is supported by a plate hingedly connected to the floor, and an upwardly biased lifting member extends upwardly through openings in the shelf and the floor of the tray to lift the forward end of the stack into engagement with the feed rollers at a feeding position. The tray is provided with corner separators to separate an advancing topmost sheet from the remainder of the stack, and the stack is confined between side walls of the tray which guide the sheets being advanced by the feed rollers. The paper feed tray is movable from the operating station to a loading station outside the photocopying machine to facilitate loading another stack of sheets into the tray. To enable sheets of different widths to be used in the photocopying machine, the paper feed arrangement is provided with locating means for enabling paper feed trays accommodating sheets of different widths to be interchangeably placed on the shelf and properly positioned thereon for operation at the operating station.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 323 words
In a duplicating machine, the combination comprising sheet advancing means for advancing a sheet from a feeding position, said sheet advancing means being fixedly located at an operating station, a paper feed tray having a floor for supporting a stack of sheets, said paper feed tray having a side wall connected to said floor for aligning a stack of sheets in one horizontal direction on said floor, a shelf for supporting said paper fEed tray at the operating station in vertically spaced relation to said sheet advancing means, said shelf being laterally movable from the operating station beneath said sheet advancing means to a loading station remotely spaced from said operating station to facilitate the loading of a stack of sheets onto said floor of said paper feed tray, and said side wall having a relief formed therein to enable said side wall to move laterally past said sheet advancing means upon movement of said shelf from said operating station to said loading station with said sheet advancing means passing through the relief formed in said side wall, a corner separator for separating the topmost sheet from the remainder of the stack upon advancement of the topmost sheet from the feeding position by said sheet advancing means, said corner separator being fixedly connected to said floor in vertically spaced relation thereto, locating means for locating said paper feed tray on said shelf with said corner separator being horizontally spaced in operative relation to said sheet advancing means, a plate mounted on the floor of said paper feed tray for supporting the portion of the stack of sheets beneath said corner separator and said sheet advancing means, and said plate being movable upwardly to lift the portion of the stack supported thereon upwardly to bring the topmost sheet into engagement with said sheet advancing means at the feeding position with a forward corner of the topmost sheet in operative relation with said corner separator.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 323 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 75 words
In a duplicating machine according to claim 1, said corner separator being vertically spaced above said sheet engaging position of said sheet advancing means, and said plate being pivotally supported on said floor of said paper feed tray and movable upwardly to bring the forward end of the topmost sheet of the stack supported thereon into operative relation with said corner separator when the topmost sheet engages said sheet advancing means at the feeding position.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 83 words
In a duplicating machine according to claim 1, said floor having an opening formed therein beneath said plate, and said shelf having an opening formed therein horizontally aligned with the opening in said floor of said paper feed tray to enable a lifting member to move upwardly therethrough to move said plate upwardly and bring the topmost sheet of a stack supported thereon to said feeding position in engagement with said sheet advancing means located above said floor of said paper feed tray.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 74 words
In a duplicating machine according to claim 1, said locating means including a lip protruding from the forward end of said paper feed tray, a slot formed in the opposite end of said paper feed tray, said shelf having spaced tabs formed at the forward end thereof for receiving said protruding lip therebetween, and said shelf having a tab protruding upwardly therefrom to extend into said slot formed in the floor of said tray.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 107 words
In a duplicating machine according to claim 4, the combination further comprising a guide member mounted on said shelf, said guide member having an opening formed therein for receipt of said paper feed tray therethrough onto said shelf, and said opening being defined by tapered walls for guiding a paper feed tray being inserted therein into engagement with the locating tabs protruding upwardly on said shelf, and said guide member having a relief formed therein at the forward end and adjacent to said shelf for receiving the lip protruding from the forward end of said paper feed tray and holding said paper feed tray onto said shelf.
