Abstract

Abstract POLYNUCLEOTIDES HAVING SULFUR REPLACING ONE OR MORE OF THE OXYGEN ATOMS BONDED TO PHOSPHORUS ARE PREPARED BGY POLYMERIZING A MONONUCLEOTIDE IN WHICH THE PHOSPHORUS IS PRESENT IN THE FORM OF A PHOSPHOROTHIAOTE HAVING ONE OR MORE SULFUR ATOMS BONDED TO THE PHOSPHORUS. A SUITABLE BIOCATALYST IS USED TO EFFECT POLYMERIZATION AND WHERE NECESSARY A BIOTEMPLATE IS ALSO USED. THE RESULTING POLYNUCLEOTIDE THIO-ANALOGUES HAVE ENHANCED INTERFERON INDUCING PROPERTIES.
