Abstract
Abstract A process for the production of methacrylic acid which comprises catalytically reacting in the vapor phase a gaseous mixture containing methacrolein and molecular oxygen at an elevated temperature in the presence of a catalyst consisting of molybdenum arsenic, phosphorus, and oxygen, said catalyst being of a composition such that the atomic ratio of molybdenum to arsenic is (7-30):1 and the atomic ratio of molybdenum to phosphorus is (5-30):1.
