Abstract AN AMBIPOLAR PHOTORECEPTOR MEMBER WHICH COMPRISES A SUBSTRATE AND A PHOTOCONDUCTIVE LAYER OVERLAPPING SAID SUBSTRATE. THE PHOTOCONDUCTIVE LAYER COMPRISES VITREOUS SELENIUM OR A SELENIUM-ARSENIC ALLOY WHICH IS DOPED WITH A SMALL AMOUNT OF SODIUM, LITHIUM, POTASSIUM, RUBIDIUM, OR CESIUM. THE PHOTORECEPTOR MEMBER EXHIBITS SATISFACTORY CHARGES ACCEPTANCE AND DISCHARGE FOR PHOTOGENERATED CHARGES OF EITHER POLARITY.
